We all have bad days when absolutely nothing goes right. Trouble seems to pile up and you wish you could run and away and hide
With this in mind, please consider the following inspirational quote below. It does help to bring things into perspective:
--------------------------------------------------------
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant. If we did not taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome
………………….. Anne Bradstreet”
--------------------------------------------------------
Anne Bradstreet: is one of the most important figures in the history of American Literature. She is considered by many to be the first American poet. Her book was the first written by a woman to be published in the United States.

3) READERS QUESTION!
a) Question Posted On the Forum: - Crate Training For Westies
Hullo
I am writing to ask if anyone has any experience of crate training
Colin

Great Reply By Karen (As Usual)
My parents westies were not crate trained but we have crate trained our labrador puppy and the same principle applies. He loved it as soon as he got it.
Some tips would be to have half with blankets and the other half with newspaper to start with. Put a blanket or towel over the crate to create a den feel to it. Make it a fun place that the dog will like to go to, let him play with toys in there - never put the dog in there for being naughty as he'll come to think of it as a place he goes to be punished.
Don't let him drink or eat too close to bedtime and make sure he goes to the toilet before going into his crate for any period of time.
To prevent boredom when in the crate fill a kong toy and this will keep the pup busy while you are out and he is in the crate.
If going out, give them a treat specific to the crate. We do this and as soon as I mention that treat's name, our pup will go straight into his crate and wait for the treat!
Never leave a dog in a crate all day. The maximum we've ever left ours is 4.5 hours, but this was once he was old enough to be able to go that long without needing the toilet every hour.
Crate training our pup meant he was dry overnight by 10 weeks old and then we removed the newspaper and let him use the whole crate as a bed. We still use a crate at 7 months old as we know our pup and the kitchen is safe. Although, we can now leave the door open to it, as long as there is nothing laying about he can chew or eat!
Before we got our crate I was not really for them, but now I've seen how good they can be in aiding toilet training. Not all dogs are happy in them, but introduced in a positive way will help the dog enjoy having his own space in there.
Hope that helps.

4) TOUCHED BY KINDNESS - Posted on the forum at:
http://www.crazyaboutwesties.com/forum/index.php
I am reminded of a lovely incident while visiting a good friend in hospital. We were standing in the queue at the cafe waiting to pay for our food.
Meanwhile a lady with a very young child was getting very embarrassed and stressed because she could not find money to pay for her selected food items. These included a small meal for her daughter.
Suddenly an elderly gentleman went to the cashier and paid for the items for this young mother. This action was not a major event. It would not make the daily news. However in the eyes of this mother it meant the world. She exchanged words of sincere thanks and I do believe she would have cried, based on her body language.
It was such a lovely gesture. A genuine touch of kindness that had a lovely impact on the person who needed it at that time.
I hope that this story is enjoyed and will spur others to post more.
Janet
