When your
confidence is low because of other things that are happening
around you, people of aggressive behaviour with loud mouths can
make you feel inferior.
Maybe you
are just a person with a quiet demeanor who gets picked on a
lot. I used to be like that in my younger days. I was bullied
at school and I know that it affected me for a long long
time.
You would
like to be treated by other people; with respect and common
curiosity. This is what you would do. Please read the powerful

Roosevelt: - was a
distant cousin to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whom she married in
1905. Eleanor was active in Democratic politics and helped to
shape her husband's New Deal programs while he was president.
After FDR's death, she continued to lecture and write,
advocating racial equality, women's rights and world peace. From
1945 to 1953, she was the United States delegate to the United
Nations. She is considered one of the most active and
influential First Ladies in U.S. history.

Really
sorry to hear about your loss - it must be a very difficult time
for you. Everyone here on the forum is here if you need to talk.
I've been trying to find some information
online for you with regards to canine meningitis. I came across
this site which seemed to have the best information: http://www.animalhospitals-usa.com/dogs/meningitis.html
It appears that the symptoms can be similar to those seen in
humans with the disease.
While doing the above search, I was also
interested to read that the disease distemper can also lead to
meningitis.

Personally, I have not come across
meningitis in dogs before. The following poem helped me come to
terms with my beloved Freeway X yorkie who I had for 19 years,
I also hope it well help you too, and to
remember the good times you both shared.

Fidelity
There’s a certain kind of friendship
That is very difficult to beat.
And very rare to find
In the people that you meet
Yet every dog that ever lived
Has this gift to bestow-
A loyal firm devotion
As so many of us know.
Though people
judge you by your
looks,
Your cash, your job, your car,
A dog is so much wiser-
He accepts you as you are.
You can be a saint or sinner
Down-and out or millionaire,
He’ll not ask to see your pedigree
As long as you are there.
While those around are planning
All their trips to Greece and Spain,
With him you’ll find adventure
In a romp along the lane.
His days are full of pleasure
Yet his needs are very few,
A pat, a dish, a cushion,
A ball to fetch for you.
If
others seem to shun you
Maybe think you’re just a bore,
He lets you keep on talking,
Though he’s heard it all before.
As he settles close beside you
With his head upon your knee,
For there’s no place in all the world
Where he would rather be.
When
many may be missing
In your hour of need and strife
There’s one whose always ready
To defend you with his life.
No matter whether right or wrong,
But shows his trusting confidence
In clear, adoring eyes.
And when his life is ending
From
the signs that you can tell
That joy has turned to misery
And he never will get well
And the tail that wagged in ecstasy
To greet you at the door,
Is hanging low, and honest eyes
Are sad and shine no more.
It
will break your heart to do it
For you know you’ll miss him so
But when active life is over
Then Its’ kinder to let go.
Just to make his ending easy
Is the last thing you can give
And let him die with dignity
The way you let him live

Hi
Vikki,
I just read your post about losing your
Westie to meningitis. I know how painful and senseless this loss
must feel and I am so sorry.
This is my first time to hear of
meningitis in dogs and I plan to read and learn from your
experience.
Please know that I send my sincerest
sympathy. I cannot speak for everyone on this list, but I can
assure you that most--if not all-- of the members of this list
have either had a similar experience or can
relate to how deeply you feel this loss.
Thank you for sharing your grief and the
information about the illness that took your precious Westie.
Your sharing and Karen's research may help prevent the loss of
another precious family member from among this forum's members.
I struggled for weeks after I had to say
goodbye to my 16 year old Westie, Casey, in 2003. The best
advice I received then was to forget the last days of illness
and the euthanasia and replace those thoughts with all the happy
memories and joy we shared prior to those few painful last days.
As soon as I could do that, the world began to get back its
color. I hope your memories provide you the same comfort.
I hope we will hear from you again. We
are all here to help if we can.
Sincerely,
Carol

Dear
Vikki,
My heart goes out to you this morning. I
know how hard it is. I just lost my Westie, Suzie Pooh, of 14
years and 3 months. She had bladder cancer and survived it for 2
1/2 years and then it got the best of her and she slowly went
into renal failure for 2 weeks. I had to put my baby to rest.
It
was the hardest most difficult thing I have ever done. I stayed
with her until she closed her gorgeous black button eyes...ok I
have to stop...I'm crying crying crying again. She was my
bestest friend. I will never find another dog like her again.
She is my Little Girl and always will be. I cried for days and
I'm still crying. It's ok to cry and you have so many people
here that understand your loss.
I have never
heard of meningitis in a dog either. Did the vet just determine
that today?
May your puppy rest in peace. I know that
my Suzie will meet her in heaven.
My deepest sympathy

Hello
Vicky - just wanted to say how sorry I am too.
It is 10 years since our first Westie
died in tragic circumstances. She was called Suki and we still
think about her and talk about her.
We have a four month old boy Westie now
and love him to bits but will still always remember Suki with so
much love - she was totally, utterly devoted to us. The love
that you get from a dog is so unconditional and it is almost as
if you can still feel that love after they have gone.
My
thoughts are with you. Take care. Pat
