IN THIS ISSUE:
1) Editor's Thoughts
2) Kind Thought For The Day
3) Readers Question:
-------------------------------------------------
1) EDITOR'S THOUGHTS!
Hi.
I do hope that this issue finds you well. I am sorry for
the delay in this issue but I have been trying to lay the
groundwork and secure the future of the westie sites, which include the forum and gallery.
I don't want to bore you, but I have had so much unforeseen technical difficulties. If all comes to fruition, I will have
backups and safeguards in place around the middle of next month.
I posted this on the forum:
**********************************************
Hi
In the last couple of weeks I have been involved in getting information on how to update the forum, plus other important
things. This ground work will keep the forum and the forthcoming private membership site safe for the foreseeable
future.
I am in this for the long haul. The site will have to go
private because almost daily I get spammers such as casinos posting rubbish plus other things I won't repeat. Also as
a private community of Westie owners I think you will feel more secure and happy.
The membership package will see articles of interest and all things relevant to the Westie. Above all they will
be exclusive to this site and will involve feedback from
your good-selves.
I will have to charge a 3 monthly fee. It will not be massive, but it will be required to meet the rising costs.
I would appreciate your valued feedback on this important matter.
It will affect you all and I NEED to know what you think.
In the next several days I will be updating the forum to the most
recent version. If it goes down for a day, don't worry because that will be the reason for it.
Look forward to your replies. I value them all
Kind regards
Jeff

The response to date has been a massive YES and I repeat again -" I am in this for the long term!".
Please support the rising costs and time by purchasing the products
available. Please send me your thoughts on the above.
I have nearly completed the UPDATE for the Westie products for 2006. I was planning on raising the price by 22% on midnight
on 31st of January. I have placed this on hold until I get the technical difficulties sorted out. I want to provide quality
products and service.
The forum at:
http://www.crazyaboutwesties.com/forum/index.php
has now over 3,200 posts and at the time of writing 134 members.
Sincere thanks to all the members that post and take time to answer
the queries.
So please keep them coming and also your lovely stories.

2) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Westie Owners On Rough Days!”

We are all searching for the dream of happiness, but for most of the time and for most of us, the dream alludes us. In my own
case, happiness is found when relationships with family and friends are going well.
With this in mind, please consider the following inspirational quote below:
*********************************************************
“Consider the following. We human are social beings. We come into the world as the result of other’ actions. We
survive here in dependence on others. Whether we like it or not, there is hardly a moment of our lives when we do
not benefit from others activities. For this reason it is
hardly surprising that most of our happiness arises in
the context of our relationship with others

3) READERS QUESTION! - Westie Puppies
Posted By:- Joanne on Forum
-------------------------------------------
Hi
What a brilliant forum. So glad that I found it.
I am considering getting a westie puppy and wanted to ask
1) What's the biggest problem in raising it
2) Are they prone to allergies
3) What is the major benefit that you find
I really look forward to your replies
Joanne
------------------------------------------
1, Time, Patience, energy and lots of love.
Keeping your cool when they are naughty.
2, Yes they can be. its a westies trait in some
respects, so you have to be careful and treat
from an early age in some cases, but insurance
covers this.
3, the unconditional love they give, the enjoyment
of watching them grow, and how intelligent they
are
Hope this helps
Dave

I have a Westie furbaby (Abby) who is almost 3 months old. She is a sweetheart and I love and spoil her to extreme.
I haven't found any problems raising her yet but she has only been home a month and she and I are still working on
housetraining and puppy nipping.
I had heard about Westie allergies but so far have not
discovered any with her. In fact, the Vet mentioned this only yesterday when she was getting her next set of
booster shots. Vet prefers to give the shots to Westies in stages rather than all at once due to possible allergies.
Her leg was extremely sore for 24 hours but with the help of half a baby aspirin, she is now feeling much better today.
Not sure how to answer your question about major benefits of raising a Westie but can tell you that she, so far, has
been very good at housetraining, been excellent about using her crate at night, and is a real cuddler and she is a real
pleasure to spoil and love I was told that females are easier to train - not sure about that but know she is doing well
in that area.
They are apparently very good with children with supervision of the child and dog of course. My future son in law's parents
have a Westie who is 8 years old and that is how I fell in love with the breed.
Don't know if all this helps make your decision, but my initial response would be that you should read as many of the Forum
questions and comments as possible and then you can make an informed decision. Getting your Westie from a highly recommended
breeder, I think, is extremely important.
Good luck to you - I know I haven't looked back for one moment since making the decision to get her and then bringing her home.
I waited 5 very long months to get her and have never regretted that waiting period.

Hi Joanne,
Welcome to the forum. Westies can be the most entertaining, humorous
and loving dogs you have ever known--all wrapped up in one beautiful
package.
Having said that, I will also tell you that if you have never been
around a Westie or terrier in general, I urge you to spend some time
researching, reading and, if possible, visiting a Westie
breeder/trainer to be with the breed. They require exercise and training to work well in
the household. Even a trained Westie may decide that what you are asking
them to do is silly and refuse to do it! They think for themselves and
weigh their options. Some people don't like that.
Personally, that is one characteristic I love about the breed. They are
very intelligent and have a great sense of humor. You can see the little
wheel inside their heads turning think about what you've asked them to do!
You must be the boss and follow-through on what you ask of them but you
must also have their respect. In my opinion, they respond to positive
training much better than any other method.
Westie need human time and a lot of attention. If you cannot provide that
and you don't expect to have the dog in your home, you will be destined
for trouble. A bored or neglected Westie can become destructive and will
dig a hole large enough for a Buick.
Some Westies (and terriers in general) do not always do well with small
children. I have two Westies now who love children, but I have also had
a Westie who was terrified of kids and wasn't trustworthy around children.
Finding a well and selectively bred puppy from a reputable breeder is
especially important because Westies are prone to certain allergies,
hip displaysia and other congenital skin problems as a result of poor
breeding practices. Selective breeders will not breed if there is a
genetic malady that shows up in any of their breeding line.
I would encourage you to pick up a copy of the books and manuals Jeff
has put together to help you to make some of the big decisions ahead
of you in deciding if a Westie is right for you.
Terriers are not for the timid or faint of heart! The first year of
raising a puppy is a joy and a lot of fun, but also a lot of work
and dedication and time. You need to be sure you are willing to give that first year the time it needs. I would also encourage you
to consider Westie rescue if that might be an option.
I hope this is helpful. I am not trying to scare you away from the breed, but as cute and wonderful as they are, they can also
be as much terror as they are terrier!
Good luck and let us know if you get a puppy. We will all want to see your new baby...
Carol
