2) READERS STORY:

"Ben will be five in June. I have only had him about 18 months. He belonged to my mother's carer and one day her husband came home with a Husky.

The two dogs didn't get on and poor Ben had to go - you would think it would be last in first out.

Anyway, I said that I would buy him from her - I already had a cat but was willing to risk it. He came to live with me - much to the cat's annoyance at first but they are now good friends and my cat
enjoys playing peep-bo and generally teasing him.

He is my best friend and we have a very strong bond between us. He loves travelling in my car and looking out of the window but most of all he loves watching television.

If he sees another dog, or any animal for that matter, he runs up to the TV and stands up on his hind legs to have a closer look. If he hears someone screaming or any animal noises he gets quite frantic and runs round and round and it is funny watching him.

I had to put him in kennels just outside Cardiff for about a month in February when I went to New Zealand on holiday. It was heart breaking but I needn't have worried - there was a TV there for the dogs to watch!!

He was in an building with about four other Westies. I took him to a local park yesterday and there we met five other Westies - they definitely seem to be the most popular dogs at the moment.

He is so faithful and I don't know what I would do without him. As I type this he is lying by my feet waiting for me to take him for a walk. I had better sign off and do as he wishes. How could I keep my precious boy waiting.

Anne!"

3) READERS QUESTION!

1) Question Posted On the Forum: -Do Westies Smell

I have been planning for a westie for months now. I have researched care, training of etc and discussed with the family.

Tonight my husband dropped a minor bombshell. He doesn't want a dog if it makes the house smell, also he claims dog owners get used to the smell and cannot smell and smell!! so only outsiders can smell dog!

If the dog smell he would expect me to give it away. Obviously it would not be fair to get a dog on this basis. Should I give up? Do dogs smell generally?

Difficult one that. Only people that don't own dogs seem to smell them.

I can't smell our dog in the house, but maybe others can? You can get pet deodorizes to keep your dog smelling nice and also sprays for upholstery, etc.

If you let a smelly dog on the sofa, etc then the place will smell more of course.

Hopefully some other forum members will be able to offer their opinions.

Personally, I don't think this is a reason not to get a dog ... it's part of the package - like my labrador, he's shedding his fur at the moment so the carpet and our clothes are a nice dark brown haze most of the time,
but I love him fur or no fur everywhere

Hi

I go along with Karen, especially the part that it's part of the package.

Our Westie does smell especially when he used to dig. A bath cured that.

I know that you have been planning for a long time now for the arrival of a Westie and that shows someone who really really cares. However I think
you need to think again.

I wish you the best of luck in your decision. I know from your post that it will be the right one.

Kind regards

Jeff
