4) New Book For Westie Owners
-------------------------------------------------
1) EDITOR'S THOUGHTS!
Hi.
As always I do hope this issue of the newsletter finds you all well. I was reminded about health because I was
reading a post from one of our forum members called Janet.
It can be viewed at:
http://www.crazyaboutwesties.com/forum/index.php
Regarding good health, I say this because I have had a long
period of sickness and it something that I have never forgot.
It will at times rock you to your foundations.
That's why I try to covey that you should value your
good health. It is another reason why I wrote my new
book at:
http://www.madaboutwesties.com/kindthoughts.html
We need more stories of your Westies. Please go to:
http://www.crazyaboutwesties.com/forum/index.php
and post your questions and stories
Look forward to hearing from you.

2) READERS STORY:
Hi Jeff
Yes we successfully downloaded Mad About Westies and already we have read loads of great and useful information.
We have 2 Westies,a male called Alfie who we have had since he was 8 weeks old and we also have a bitch called Gypsy
who we have had since just before last Christmas. Both of them are 18 months old.
Gypsy had a major operation on her cruciate knee ligament on one of her back legs a couple of months back but she is doing
great now. The vet said that it was an old injury but wasn't easily noticeable when we got her. The operation cost a lot of
money but she's worth it.
Gypsy also suffers from a skin condition which is best described by my vet as oily skin which leaves what I can best describe as
quite large dark flakes in her coat although this doesn't bother Gypsy as it
doesn't cause her to itch.
We bathe and groom her regularly which keeps it under control but if you have any bright ideas they would be greatly appreciated.
Both Alfie and Gypsy are totally different characters, he is very much an in your face type of dog but without being over the top, he
is also highly intelligent and absolutely loves to `help` me or my wife around the house especially if it's something he hasn't
seen before.
Gypsy is much more laid back but she can still have a mad half hour and we love them both to bits. Dogs have been a part of our lives
right through growing up and throughout our married life and Westies
are the best by far.
I could talk about them all night but through fear of probably boring
you to death I'll leave you now and just say thank you very much for
all the great information in your book.
Thanks again

3) READERS QUESTION!
a) Question Posted On the Forum: - Westie and Barkie
Hullo
I know that the West Highland Terrier barks a lot. It seems to be part of the package.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how I could make him bark less

Hi Susie
I was reading about training to stop barking recently.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact exercise, but basically, when the dog barks, ignore him, don't make eye contact, don't speak
to him and then when he's quiet praise and reward him. They bark to seek attention.
This will probably take some time to implement but if he's not getting the attention he desires and gets attention when he is
quiet then he should eventually get the message that quiet is good
But then again, he is a westie and anything could happen
